The Best Kept Secret of the Mediterranean Coast

It's often a great source of amusement for me, when I visit Camogli in peak season, that I have managed to miraculously dodge the hoards of tourists visiting the Ligurian Coast, namely Cinque Terre which sits just around the corner from this magical (and relatively unknown) fishing village.

Perched on the Ligurian coast, on the fringes of the Portofino National Park, there's a lot to love about Camogli. There are various hiking trails that take you through the National Park, over to the neighbouring (and equally charming) villages. There are also various day trips to take by boat, leaving the working port of Camogli.

San Fruttuoso is one of the most popular day trip destinations, accessible only by boat or a rather arduous hike! San Fruttuoso is possibly a little too overcrowded for me. If you do the day trip, make sure you book lunch in advance and also ask your restaurant to kindly reserve you a sun bed for you!! You won't want to be left scraping together a few pebbles to sit on the beach!

There are lots of great places to eat in Camogli. My favoutites are La Camogliese and the restaurant at The Dogi.

For swimming, snag a sun bed at Le Lido (around 20€ per person), at The Dogi (50€ per person) or on the beach (free).
